I do want to make sure other people don't pattern their form after him, though - there is a point where it's too much arc and lowers the consistency of the shot. And please understand this: Dirk's shot is NOWHERE NEAR similar to Boozer's. Boozer flings it from behind his head - which Dirk shoots it from over his head with a completely different motion that uses mostly wrist. Boozer's motion gets his arms involved. So please don't make me barf by putting Boozer and Dirk in the same sentence... thx

Re: Bulls Meltdown in Game 6: Amnesty Carlos Boozer

Sure. (though I doubt that you know enough to compare their training) My point is that this has nothing to do with the form or the arc of Boozer's shot, which is one of Nick's tantra when it comes to anything the Bulls do bad (i.e. anything about Boozer).
If you think he sucks, I don't fully agree but fine. But it has barely anything to do with his form. Hell, if he's been playing at this level for so many years, I would say that his shooting is fine, and it's more about basketball I.Q and compatibility with the rest of the team.

Re: Bulls Meltdown in Game 6: Amnesty Carlos Boozer

Dirk obsessively works on his shooting. Boozer doesn't, and it shows. How's that for an explanation?

Re: Bulls Meltdown in Game 6: Amnesty Carlos Boozer

Man, we get it that Boozer is not exactly the type of player you enjoy watching play. He is indeed very inconsistent (a problem considering his salary), and I even agree that he doesn't fit very well with the Bulls' identity.
Where I think that you are being really silly is with your obsession about Boozer's shooting form (in this post, but not only, because you very often go back to that point). It is incredibly incoherent to bash his gesture, and in the same time to be amazed by the beauty of Nowitzki's (as is everybody, for that matter), since they are very much alike : ball behind the head, huge arc, often off balance. The only true difference is that Nowitzki is a couple inches taller, and therefore didn't need to develop as many fakes in the post as Boozer (which he does pretty successfully). The other difference is obviously that the big German is a much more accurate shooter, and has more range. Still, the form is not at stake here, since both have pretty much the same (a rather nice one, if you ask me).

Re: Bulls Meltdown in Game 6: Amnesty Carlos Boozer

I hear you, Coach. I know Kobe and Lebron deal with more sophisticated offenses today that make it easier to focus the efforts of 5 to shut down the 1 and how double and triple teaming before the catch made it so Kobe couldn't post up as close to the bucket as MJ habitually did.

But it's becoming more and more clear that the ridiculous success of those Bulls teams was due to a lot more things than what's immediately apparent to casual fans - MJ's individual dominance. Yeah, Rodman and Pipper were underrated, but that's not what I mean. With so much of his legend built on talk about his personality, you know, stuff that's easy to write stories about, I suspect there's a whole lot of untapped knowledge to digest from focusing on what the MJ/Pippen Bulls actually DID that was so successful beyond all the tired cliches.

The more I look at it, the more I think the Heat have a really good squad to run a pile of triangle offense. It seems basically like a more sophisticated iteration of what they've tried to install this year with spacing, cutting, less PnR dependence, and better ball movement. Honestly, the MJ plays you showed looked a lot like what Wade does well off the ball and the Kobe stuff looked like what happens at the end of three broken plays or a clock-control situation.

What, if anything, stands between the Heat's current roster and a squad that could be devastating in triangle sets? If there was ever an offense that fits what we know about Lebron's personality, it's one where everybody gets to be an effective part.

Re: Heat vs. Knicks: LeBron Should Be Concerned

I must say that looking at Bosh's problem, when you talk about left or right block, is that Bosh will use his "quickness" (certainly he's lighter than Chandler) to get his shot off, knowing he's not very strong. So left block, he'll settle for 1-dribble fade pull-up (1:17 on the video) or hop shots as he'll enter the paint on the jump then shoot it. He's not very good at it, but on the right block he shoots fadeaways easily cause his balance is great when using his right leg as set. And guess what? He's ranked very good on that area. So the problem is his balance (and the plays set by Spoelstra) so he should better his balance or gain weight so he can pound the ball inside more.

Re: Heat vs. Knicks: LeBron Should Be Concerned

No question LeBron's post game has been vital to the Heat's success and dominance.
The biggest thing for Lebron's post game (IMHO) might not be getting closer to the bucket as much as just executing it all faster without giving the D as much time to set up or letting his man figure out his options.

Posting and getting off a baseline turnaround has been significantly more reliable than trying to drive and pulling up from the same spot. Not even Iggy can consistently mess with him on the new go-to move.

This didn't get much mention, but I've been impressed that he's added a floater to his arsenal that simply wasn't there last year. Now he doesn't risk barrelling into defenders who are trying to take charges as much, which was something that limited his ability to drive sometimes.

Re: Heat vs. Knicks: LeBron Should Be Concerned

Unfortunately, not many college programs ingrain those concepts either.

Re: Heat vs. Knicks: LeBron Should Be Concerned

Most NBA players dont have a really good concept of defensive weak side help and neither how to box out in some cases, neither how to overplay, neither how to defend a P&R.I think its quite a pitty that in players with so much talent those tactical things arent so well dominated.

Re: Heat vs. Knicks: LeBron Should Be Concerned

I think part of it is because the heat won't be able to go to low post in the paint since Bosh can't play physical and doesnt have a strong post up move other than face up jumper. For some reason I dont see lebron posting up deeper as much, he kinda goes back to driving in. and d-wade is too short in low post when help-D come. I believe Bosh shud work on his inside game more rather settle jumper on the outside

Re: Bulls v.
